Puppy/Dog Essentials List

Notes:
Most harnesses restrict shoulder movement and can impact a Samoyed’s gait. Choose only those designed to free the shoulder (as much as possible)- I recommend Hurtta only - they last 10+ years. Whenever safe and possible, my dogs run free without any collars, leashes or harnesses.
Show dogs should minimize collar use to prevent coat marking.
I don't recommend invisible fences, choke collars, and slip leads for safety reasons. Slip leads except for quick transfers (to/from car to daycare, at shows, etc.).
I've tried most booties available and recommend those from dogbooties.com (Alaska, US) or Tanzilla (Yukon Territory, Canada), designed for sled dogs and a perfect fit for Sammies. Typical sizes are S for young puppies, M for older puppies, and L or XL for teens/adults. I find these booties 100% better than leather and bulky booties. Use fleece for dry days/snow, and soft cordura in muddy/other conditions. Do not substitute booties with paw balms! Balms are recommended for moisturizing paw pads/nose, but are not a physical barrier for salt and snow.
Disposable pee pads can be dangerous for puppies because if chewed or ingested, the absorbent material expands and can cause choking or life-threatening intestinal blockages.
Some of the above food brands may only be available for order at your local store (Global Pet Foods, Pet Valu, Pet Smart etc.).
Only use stainless steel bows, and wash water bowls daily.

Avoid treats. Samoyeds will be just as happy with kisses and cuddles.
All show dog supplies listed above can be purchased at Tybrushe, Custom Pet Boutique, Lynn Professional, and Iv San Bernard.
Please never use /allow chalk on your Sammy.
Never ever allow your groomer to use de-shedding shampoos/tools/rakes. If mats occur, contact us for guidance. Remind them every time to avoid surprises...
Daily teeth brushing is an excellent habit and also a great bonding opportunity with your dog. Use a medium toothbrush. Wait until they are 5-6 months old to start a dental care routine.
